We only make French Toast about every other month, as it's not the healthiest choice! But so extremely delicious! Ingredients
1 loaf of brioche or challah bread (I prefer the French loaf of Brioche at Whole Foods)
3 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 to 4 tablespoons butter (use 2 tablespoons for 3 or 4 slices)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Maple syrup to taste (I like the Organic Amber Maple Syrup at Trader Joes)
Optional:
Mascarpone cheese (l like the one from Trader Joes or Whole Foods)
Hazelnuts (1/2 cup)
Brown sugar (2 tablespoons)
Powdered sugar (1 rounded tablespoon)
Garnish: (optional)
Fresh blueberries, or fresh strawberries
Powdered sugar
Steps: To prepare the whipped mascarpone: Whip one container of mascarpone with 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar (use an electric whip) To prepare the hazelnuts: In a food chopper, chop 1/2 cup of hazelnuts with the brown sugar Steps for the French Toast:
First slice the brioche, 1 1/2 inch thick.
In a small bowl, combine and whisk the eggs, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and granulated sugar and set aside briefly, and pour into a shallow container such as a pie plate.
In a 10-inch or 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Dip the brioche in the egg mixture (one slice at a time)
Fry slices until golden brown, then flip to cook the other side.
Serve with syrup and optionally with the whipped mascarpone on the side and chopped hazelnuts sprinkled on top
For presentation, optionally, dust with powdered sugar and fresh berries.
